The Man Who Went to the Far Side of the Moon

This is a scrapbook-style look at all sorts of strange facts about the Apollo 11 flight and Michael Collins, the astronaut who circled the moon 14 times while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin strode on its surface. This unique experience took the concept of waiting outside in the car while the others go to a party to a whole new level in more ways than one, but the view was shockingly spectacular. Collins had 701 control board switches and the fourth passenger, 20 relentless pounds of procedural checklists, to keep him company during the 48 minutes of radio silence each time he orbited on the dark side. The scrapbook layout focuses on journals, photographs, notes, charts, drawings, training information, and an account of what went through Collins's mind as he whirled along in the capsule, along with intriguing details like a surprising list of what the astronauts left on the moon.
